A Problem of Excess
The abdomen and trunk are the areas most commonly affected by the large amounts of excess skin that follows weight loss. The overhanging abdominal and pubic skin is unsightly, affects the fit of clothing. It may also cause health problems such as skin irritation and infection. There may also be some remaining fat in this area, despite a patient being at their goal weight. Patients who have been pregnant will also have some degree of muscle looseness and bulging.
The buttocks and hip areas may also have loose or overhanging skin plus excess fat that prevents patients from wearing shorts or other summer attire. When this condition is present, there will often be laxity and very uneven skin texture of the outer and inner thighs.
One Incision, Many Uses
In the past, each of these problem areas were corrected by a separate operation, such as a tummy tuck, buttock lift, and thigh lift. Dr. LoMonaco’s preference is to provide a correction of as many areas as possible through a single incision and at one surgery.
This allows the patient to experience a correction of many issues at once, with only one downtime, one period of time off work, and one exposure to anesthesia.
